Beckles Dancing Company has been an active and present company in our community for over 28 years and has made a vital and lasting contribution as a company. Our company, housed in the South Dallas Cultural Center (SDCC), has produced works in our area that have been critically reviewed and featured in publications as artists and companies in the Dallas area. BDC has also been important in the training of successful dancers, including Layla Brent, who is on tour with The Lion King and Jared Brown who is performing in Europe. We have also successfully produced the Sweatt Dallas Dance Festival (SDDF), formerly known as the South Dallas Dance Festival for over 17 years. This festival has created a space for local artists to display unique works, to inspire varied audiences in our greater Dallas region. The SDDF funds the Sweatt Dallas Dance Festival Scholarship through the Dance Council of North Texas and is awarded to a student of color to provide financial support for their summer dance training and studies.
